Qoheleth

In an old class photo you notice a familiar gesture. Someone is tilting their head, evidently trying to look as unconcerned as possible in the picture. You know neither this person nor the other children. Still, the effort to seem casual makes immediate sense to you.

Perhaps some of them are still alive; perhaps, for a long time now, none of them is. In the photo they are standing just short of something that was still the future for them. You could look up how their lives went later. But you could also stay with this moment, in which they are all waiting for the same call.

In a schoolyard today you may come across exactly this tilt of the head again. It belongs to someone else, who of course doesn't know that you have just been reminded of someone from an old picture.
