In the year 1083, Su Shi was about to go to bed. He had begun to undress when moonlight fell through the door. He got up again. Since he had no one to share his delight in it, he went to Chengtian Temple and looked for his friend Zhang Huaimin. He too was still awake.
Together they went into the courtyard. The moonlight lay there as clear as if water had pooled on the ground. Dark water plants crossed in it. They were the shadows of bamboo and cypresses.
