Prejudice is the child of ignorance. We shy away from what we do not know, despise what has remained foreign to us, and give our not-seeing the dignified name of 'judgement'.

Six Pairs of Spectacles

Prejudice is the child of ignorance. We shy away from what we do not know, despise what has remained foreign to us, and give our not-seeing the dignified name of 'judgement'.

William Hazlitt

As a monkey grew old, his eyesight kept getting worse. He had heard from humans that all it took to fix that was a pair of spectacles.

He got himself six pairs at once. He turned them this way and that, perched them on top of his head, held them to his tail, sniffed them and licked them. His eyes got no better.

What nonsense humans talked, he grumbled. There was nothing of any use in these spectacles.

Then he flung them against a stone so hard that every one of them broke.
