“The moment is that point at which time and eternity touch each other. Whoever seizes it leaps — out of endless brooding over yesterday and tomorrow, into the only thing that is truly real: the now.”
Some decisions you prepare so thoroughly that the preparing itself becomes an occupation. You compare, you ask around, you sleep on it for a night and then another. Each new consideration is reasonable. Together they add up to a state in which you are constantly busy with the matter without ever taking a stand on it.
Weighing things up has a quiet advantage: it keeps everything reversible. As long as you are still deliberating, you are committed to nothing, and no outcome can be held against you. The price of this barely shows. You are living in a time made only of possibilities, and none of them is yours yet.
At some point you accept or decline. Rarely because the reasons are now complete. Usually something is still missing, and you know it. The words come anyway, a little too early, it seems to you, and that is exactly what makes them yours.
Afterwards the situation often looks hardly any different. The open questions are still there. One of them simply presents itself differently the next morning, because by now you are someone who has said yes.
