What you yourself do not wish for, do not do to others either.

Twice at Table

What you yourself do not wish for, do not do to others either.

Confucius

Turtle came to Anansi tired and hungry. He had baked yams. When she reached for some, he sent her to the river to wash her hands. When she returned, the bowl was empty. She thanked him and invited him to eat with her in turn.

Anansi arrived on time. Turtle had laid the table at the bottom of the river. Every time he dived down, he floated back up. In the end he filled his coat pockets with stones. Now he sank all the way to the table. The food was ready.

Then Turtle stopped him: in her house, no one ate with a coat on. Anansi took it off and shot up to the surface. With his head in the water, he watched Turtle eat.
