Even for the lion, no prey falls into its open jaws while it sleeps. Success comes to meet only the one who rises and faces the effort.

Rest and waiting look the same from outside. In both, seemingly nothing happens. The difference lies in what you expect of time.

When you rest, you ask nothing of it. You gather yourself, and that is enough. But if you are waiting for something to fall into place on its own — an opportunity, an invitation, the right moment — then you leave the movement to circumstances. Sometimes they really do spare you the journey. Often, though, only the hope remains, while little changes.

Effort guarantees nothing. Even when you try hard, you miss a great deal. But it changes what you come into contact with at all. When you move, you encounter resistance, chance and people who would never even turn up if you stood still.

Success need not follow your effort. You are then simply in places where it can find you at all.
